Hidden Book Titles: A Printable Word-Search Challenge

Fifteen classic titles are hidden in the fifteen-by-fifteen grid below, reading left to right, right to left, top to bottom, bottom to top, or diagonally in either direction. Spaces and hyphens are removed from titles before they’re hidden, so “Moby-Dick” appears as one unbroken run of eight letters. The word list tells you what to look for; it doesn’t tell you where.

This is a genuine solved grid, not a template with random filler: every one of the fifteen titles below was placed into the fifteen-by-fifteen square first, in one of the eight directions listed above, and the remaining empty squares were filled in afterward with random letters. The answer key gives the exact row and column for the start and end of every title, so you can check a find against the grid coordinates rather than just eyeballing it.

Fifteen-by-fifteen word-search grid. Rows are numbered 1 to 15 down the left edge, columns 1 to 15 across the top.

Open a hint

Start with the longest titles first — The Odyssey and Little Women are each easier to spot than the four-letter ones like Kim and Emma, simply because there are fewer places an eleven-letter run can hide.

Printing this puzzle

The grid above is built as an actual HTML table, not an image, so it holds its shape when printed and the letters stay crisp at any zoom level. Use the print controls in the sidebar to print just the puzzle, or the complete page including the answer key on its own separate sheet.

If you’re solving with a group, consider printing one copy per person and comparing finds afterward rather than crowding around a single sheet: with fifteen titles running in eight possible directions across two hundred and twenty-five letters, two people rarely spot the exact same word first.

  • The 15×15 letter grid and every word placement were generated and verified by script: each hidden title was re-read from the finished grid along its stated direction and confirmed to match the intended title exactly before publication.
  • Titles and authors checked against standard bibliographic references.
